About

London-based vocalist Maddie Martin is rapidly emerging as a compelling new voice on the UK jazz scene, blending deep-rooted tradition with a fresh, contemporary perspective. With a distinctive “old soul” tone and a natural gift for storytelling, she captivates audiences through expressive phrasing, rich timbre, and a commanding stage presence.

Raised in a musical household, Maddie was immersed in a wide range of genres from an early age, shaping her broad artistic outlook and continuing to inform her unique sound. A deep love of lyricism lies at the heart of her work, with wordplay playing a central role in her musical expression. She draws inspiration from iconic vocalists including Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Maddie is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed a classical vocal degree that underpins her strong technique and supports her exploration across genres. Committed to refining her craft, she has studied with leading jazz vocalists such as Claire Martin OBE, Lauren Kinsella, and Anita Wardell, developing her skills in interpretation, band leading, and storytelling.

Since moving to London, Maddie has performed shows under her name at renowned venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, The 606 Club, The Verdict Jazz Club and Swanage Jazz Festival. Maddie is also thrilled to be under the management of Craig Hume, owner of Funkgurus Artist Management. Over the past year, she has led a variety of projects: launching several London-based jam sessions, touring an Ella Fitzgerald tribute show with the London Concertante, performing regularly with duo partner Columbus Sandor, and joining the London Vocal Project under the direction of composer and educator Pete Churchill.

Maddie is also collaborating with trumpeter, composer, and arranger Gabriel Taylor on The Maddie Martin Big Band, which they co-lead. The ensemble showcases Gabriel’s original tunes, arrangements of jazz standards and soul repertoire. In December 2025, the band released their debut Christmas single, By My Santa Baby, written by Gabriel for Maddie and the ensemble. The single is available across all major streaming platforms and has received airplay on several radio stations.

Maddie is delighted to announce the release of her debut album, Part One, on 12 February 2027. Marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey, the album reflects the music and influences that have shaped her as an artist to date. The project began taking shape in May 2025 and was recorded over four days at Quiet Money Studios with five-time Grammy-nominated producer James McMillan. The album was produced by acclaimed British jazz vocalist and Maddie’s mentor, Claire Martin OBE, and will be released by ECN Music.

Rooted in the jazz tradition while exploring connections with other genres, Part One brings together a carefully curated collection of ten tracks. The album features arrangements of jazz standards, touches of 70s soul, and original compositions by trumpet player, arranger and composer Gabriel Taylor, creating a sound that honours the traditions of jazz while embracing a broader musical landscape.

The album’s first single, Dream Boy, was released on 21 April 2026 and is available on all major streaming platforms. Since its release, the track has received several radio plays, including airplay on Ian Shaw’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz FM show and Nikki Yeoh’s Jazz FM show. With more singles set to be released in the lead-up to the album launch, Maddie is eagerly anticipating the next chapter for the project.
