Vocalist Maddie Martin and pianist Columbus Sandor are a London-based jazz duo and graduates of the Royal Academy of Music class of 2025. With their distinct voices and individual achievements, they have quickly made an impact on the London jazz scene, performing at renowned venues such as Pizza Express Jazz Club, Spice of Life, Green Note, and the Vortex Jazz Club.
Columbus and Maddie’s performances range from intimate duo sets to gigs with The Maddie Martin Quartet, which they have taken across London and the UK, including their debut at Swanage jazz festival in July 2025. In early 2025, they recorded demos at Quiet Money Studios, which led to the recording of Maddie’s debut EP with her septet in September 2025, produced by five-time Grammy-nominated James McMillan and British jazz vocalist Claire Martin OBE.
Their repertoire spans soulful arrangements, original compositions by trumpeter/composer Gabriel Taylor, and reimagined standards from the Great American Songbook. With Maddie’s poignant storytelling beautifully supported by Columbus’s intricate melodies and emotive cadenzas, they create an intimate and expressive experience.
Drawing inspiration from the greats in their respective roles such as Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson as vocalists, and Erroll Garner, Bill Evans, and Herbie Hancock as pianists, their sound blends classic jazz traditions with a fresh perspective. Mentored by UK jazz greats including Nikki Iles, Claire Martin OBE, Pete Churchill, and Anita Wardell, the duo cherishes every performance as an opportunity to share their love for this rich musical tradition through their own unique storytelling, musical sensibility, and artistic flair.
